Synthetic winch cables are easily damaged by winching over ground. Even if the cable is not obviously damaged by rocks, mud works it's way into the weave, abrading the fibres and, over time, weakening the cable.
When a single rope can cost over £200, an X-Zag can pay for itself four times over in a single winch recovery.
